Classic Race Tomorrow

We did our best to set classic tracks for tomorrow's 7.5k classic race. The snow firmed up quite a bit this afternoon/evening and while the tracks went in beautifully in most places, they are shallow to non-existent in others. The race course is the same as today's skate race (the Rail Trail Loop and the new Christi's Extra add-on) and because it's a race, we set the tracks a little more toward the middle of the trail than usual to give the racers a good line. As such, if you want to get our there and enjoy the race course, I'd recommend classic skis this time. This time the race start is at 10am and it is interval start.

In addition to our work on the race course, we rolled Jelm View loop twice and partially removed a large down tree (we only brought a hand saw and thus sawed off just enough for the groomer to get through... we'll deal with the rest later).

Skate Race Tomorrow!

Today's grooming was focused on preparing for tomorrow's 15k skate race. As such, we groomed countless laps of the race course (the Rail Trail Loop and the new Christi's Extra add-on) and that's about all we did. I would highly recommend getting out your skate skis to check out the grooming before or after the race (which starts at 11am). It's probably the best skate grooming Chimney Park has ever seen... except for those few places where Ella got the groomer stuck on the Rail Trail...

New snow, fresh tracks

Over the last few days about 4 inches of heavy snow fell. We rolled the route to rail trail as well as Rachel’s O and Christi’s extra. Everything should firm up tonight and it should be good for both skate and classic.

Honestly nothing but amazing!

We got out early to put some tracks in and there were already 3 cars in the lot!

We set tracks to the Rail Trail, up what we’re calling Christi's Extra, the new extension from Rachel’s O, around Rachel’s O and back. The skiing is stunning!

By the time we changed into ski gear there were so many people on the trails!!!

Get out today, the weather is great and the skiing fantastic!

Next Saturday & Sunday we will be hosting the Cowboy Chase, UW Nordic races, out on Rachel’s O & Christi's Extra. 15km freestyle on Saturday starting at 11am & 7.5km classic on Sunday at 10am. Feel free to enjoy the extra grooming before or after or let us know if you’d like to jump in the race. Everyone is welcome.

Just keeps getting better!

Just getting back from grooming and skiing. There was a little under an inch of new snow since Tighe rolled yesterday. We took the roller out because we wanted to explore the road off Rachel’s Onfor the college race next weekend. We rolled out to the top of the hill, where it was bare, and back twice. That little extension adds some nice terrain!

Then we rolled out to the Woods Creek trailhead and then went back and grabbed the tidtech and went out and around Rachel's O twice.

It’s great skiing!

What a beautiful evening!

We got out a few minutes before the college & high school teams started skiing. We rolled one lap of Jelm, in hopes that the new snow would provide enough new coverage to make it good but no luck. The warm days have caused even more bare spots to appear.

The good news is that the Railtrail & Rachel’s O is absolutely fabulous! And there are no bare spots, thanks to Ella & Tighe’s snow fences.

We did one rolling loop of Jelm, out the Railtrail, around Rachel’s O twice and back through the City Sprints. Good skiing and it was snowing very hard when we left!

Much Needed Snow

We got a few inches of fairly wet snow this week. Tighe was able to get all of the trails packed with the roller on Thursday and then I went up today and groomed/set track on the Rail Trail/Loop and touched up Jelm View with the packer. Between our recent shoveling efforts and this new snow, the coverage on the Rail Trail is quite good and the tracks went in nicely. It's a little thin in the usual places but as of this afternoon, there were no open bare spots on the Rail Trail! Jelm View, on the other hand, desperately needed this snow. Although it wasn't enough to fill in some of the problem spots, it was enough to keep Jelm View mostly skiable. Overall the skiing should be really good tomorrow so I would highly recommend getting out there especially in the morning before it warms up.

More Shoveling and Snow Fences

We went up this afternoon and did a lot of shoveling and snow fence set up on the Rail Trail and Loop. We also groomed the Rail Trail and Loop and set a track as best we could. Especially with some of the thin and bare spots filled in, the coverage remains surprisingly good on those trails given how warm it has been this week. I imagine the tracks will set up pretty solid tonight and the skiing will be quite good tomorrow morning.

Jelm and Porters remain too thin to use the groomer. Hopefully next week bring enough snow to change that...

Weekend Grooming Update

Well folks, unfortunately the road conditions last night meant I couldn't get back to Laramie in time to groom, and doubly unfortunatel...
