2024-25 Season is underway!!!

Beautiful day on the trails!

Saturday packed from Chimney Park to the Rail Trail, around Rachel's O and back.

Sunday again packed Chimney Park to the Rail Trail, around Rachel's O and back. Then we did one pass around Porter loop.

Rail Trail and Rachel's O is very good skiing with just a few thin spots.

Porter Loop is a mix of absolute heaven and rocks. The parts in the live trees are quite good, the open sections are a mix.

Have fun out there and don't forget to join SNOW and Donate!

More classic tracks!

The rail trail lollipop has tracks set and the Jelm loop is packed. Everything was groomed twice. About 6” of fresh snow up there so if you can try and go ski up there this week!

Lots of terrain

This morning we were able to pack most of Porter Loop. However there is a downed tree near the far end of the loop and we were not able to get around. Likewise the blowout spots on the far end are formidable. So out and backs on both sides of the loop are nicely packed and you could probably even skate on it if you were determined:)!

The classic tracks on Rachel’s O are awesome!! That should stay in great shape for classic throughout the week. So we suggest playing bookie from work and heading to Chimney!

Fresh tracks!

Early this morning Christi and Rachel packed Jelm view and set a classic track on Rachel’s O! It was snowing big beautiful flakes while we were grooming so there will be a little bit of fresh in the tracks! We had to get back to work so we couldn’t enjoy the skiing. So, please go out and enjoy it for us! Send us your stories and moments of joy.

Lots of snow!

We were able to groom Chimney Park Sunday morning.

Really wet and heavy snow up there so we were only able to use the old drag.

We got the lollipop loop on the rail trail and one of the interior loops groomed.

Hope to do some grooming this weekend.

Grooming Report 01-09-24

As of Tuesday evening:

Classic tracks set from Chimney Park Camp to the Rail Trail.

Classic tracks set on the Rail Trail and Rail Trail Lollipop.

We love skating as much as you do, but this current grooming is only suitable for classic, because the trails are not wide enough to groom for classic and skate simultaneously.

Midwinter conditions, with the exception of the thin spots in windblown areas.  For the most part the tracks were pulled in these areas, but the occasional shark may exist.

Please note, grooming begins on the other side of the pond at Chimney Park Camp, rather than right at the trailhead, because of heavy blowing in that area.

Additionally, the Forest Service has requested that the summer Rail Trail trailhead not be used, and that trail users do not park along the side of the highway.

We hope to get more loops groomed soon, and some skating terrain as well.

Hope to see you out there!

Rail Trail Tracks!

Today we groomed from the CP trail head to the rail trail and around the 5 km loop that encompasses some portions of the road. We have lovingly dubbed this Rachel’s O. In total the route from CP trail head, around the loop and back is just shy of 15 km. We skied this route right after grooming it and it skied like a dream. We classiced but the route will be good for skate too, especially once it firms up! **Please remember that the road portion of Rachel’s O is open to snowmobile so we kindly share this part of the route with them.

We also regroomed Jelm View for classic. It has two thin spots but is very firm now and getting quite a bit of traffic.

There were so many skiers on the trails from the time we began grooming until the time we finished skiing. It was wonderful to see so many people enjoying it.

Christi and Rachel will be heading to Soldier Hallow to coach the team at US Nats but we will try to get one of our other groomers up there next weekend.
